‘Administer true justice; show mercy and compassion to one another’ [Zechariah 7:9 (NIV)]
July 23
‘Administer true justice; show mercy and compassion to one another’. Hypocrisy can be in justice just as much as in religion. We may advertise our integrity in administering justice when all the time administering to our selfish ends. True justice does the best for everybody and must therefore be well supported with mercy and compassion. It needs to be so. If God dealt with us as we deserved there would be little enjoyment left for us!
Such administration calls for sacrifice. Those who execute true justice must place the well-being of all uppermost. You cannot say you will never forgive or you will not pay for another’s misdeeds because, if relationships are to be restored, you may have to. Christ died for us because He loved us: He showed true mercy and compassion.
His example cannot be bettered.
