‘But my people would not heed my voice’ [Psalm 81:11 (RAV)]
July 18
‘But my people would not heed my voice’. The Children of Israel were not the only ones who failed to listen to what God was saying and put His message into action: disciples suffer the same the world over. As a result, much more correction has to be applied by the Master, much more time taken in preparation because the disciple is not ready and many opportunities are allowed to slip by because they are not recognised.
In many cases the complaint that God has not revealed His will to the individual would better be defined as a refusal to listen until what is heard is acceptable. God’s voice comes clear and strong to those who are ready to do whatever He appoints. But God is forced to say, ‘Oh that my people would listen to me’.
