‘good, and ready to forgive’ [Psalm 86:5]

‘good, and ready to forgive’. These are two of the qualities that the Psalmist attributes to the Lord as he stands before Him in his needy and poor condition.
The goodness of the Lord transcends the excuses we make for not knowing Him. His readiness to forgive exceeds our estimation of what we deserve or can expect to receive. The Lord is good. Once you have assimilated something of this truth you stand at an open door into a large place of blessing. This is specially so when you remember that God’s measure is infinitely greater than yours.
And His readiness to forgive is the treatment for our sense of failure and condemnation. Sin inhibits and hinders. God cannot countenance sin but He can and does forgive it.
