‘only this once’. Samson knew that if his prayer was answered he would die with the thousands of Philistines when the roof of the play-house collapsed as he pulled down the pillars.
He had used and abused his earlier opportunities. Apart from his physical strength he had little to show in his favour though he judged Israel for twenty years.
Others might say that Samson had his chances and now it was too late, but God heard and answered. One more time was just enough for God to work. Our short lives will burn out before God’s provision dries up.
The Lord heard the ‘only this once’ plea of the blind prisoner. The strength of the Lord infused Samson again as he bowed himself and pulled down the pillars and all were slain.
