‘they … did not know’ [Matthew 24:38,39 (RAV)]
July 2
‘they … did not know’. Men were too pre-occupied to listen to Noah’s message. Noah did not neglect his responsibility – the Bible describes him as a preacher of righteousness. Those who know the gospel message must be diligent in proclaiming it. We rub shoulders with others in the course of a day. Does the gospel message rub off? Noah must have suffered a good deal of ridicule and mocking. So may we.
Opposition and unbelief around him did not stop him from working – building more than 100 years. His job told of God’s displeasure with the evil in the world and of the salvation that was being prepared.
We have a responsibility: those who know us should know Him. We can tell them, though only the Holy Spirit can make them hear and know.
