‘What good is it …? ‘ [James 2:14 (NIV)]

July 19

‘What good is it …? ‘. James describes and measures faith in a way that can be understood, that is to say, by its effect. It is difficult to define or describe but you can recognise its effect.
So James asks what good it is if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? We do well to ask the same question.
Life is filled with activity of one sort or another. That activity should be done to good purpose.
Is absence of good sometimes because there is an absence of true faith? Living faith produces its own evidence. It is no good saying you have faith if you do not produce it – in your life today. There is such a thing as dead faith. The life lived by faith is a life of doing good to all men. Jesus went about doing good: that good was evident for all to see.
