SUMMARY:"your Father knows what you need before you ask him" [Matthew 6:8(NIV)]
DESCRIPTION:rehearse the matter before Him when you come in prayer. Neither does it mean that our heavenly Father will give us what we need without having to ask Him. In fact the New Testament clearly states that we do not receive because we do not ask.\nIt does mean that there is something more important than an accurate description or our providing full details.\nThe prerequisite for intercessory prayer is that there shall be nothing between the petitioner and his heavenly Father and that he shall ask in faith.\nOnce these conditions are fulfilled prayer can become communion and true fellowship is established between heavenly Father and His child.[/sayit]

SUMMARY:"they came to Elim" [Exodus 15:27]
DESCRIPTION:“they came to Elim”. The place called Elim to which the children of Israel came shortly after they left Egypt in what was to be 40 years’ wandering in the desert speaks of\n 1. refreshment and never ending supply – there were twelve springs of water\n 2. peace and safety – seventy palm trees provided cool shelter beneath a hot sun.\n 3. a place where one may rest and lie down in safety – they camped there.\nThank God there are still ‘Elims’ in the Christian’s migration through the deserts of this world. They are to be met with soon after the journey begins – as often as they are needed\, in fact – strategically placed there by the Lord Who has gone ahead. Be sure you avail yourself of them.

SUMMARY:"and increasing in the knowledge of God" [Colossians 1:10]
DESCRIPTION:“and increasing in the knowledge of God”. The Christian life is a progression and ever moving forward. Not least in this advance is an increase in the knowledge of God.\nThe knowledge of God is the greatest of sciences. Those seeking after God are ever discovering new areas: their path is strewn with blessing at each turn of life’s road. God is concerned with the finest details of a man’s life. To realise this is but the beginning of untold reward – that the God of all the earth is concerned about ‘me’!\nTo know that God loves me is like an announcement marking the beginning of a quest which will continue right into eternity.\nIncreasing in the knowledge of God may begin now: it will be full of blessing\, and its blessing will never end.

SUMMARY:"now they have no excuse for their sin" [John 15:22(NIV)]
DESCRIPTION:“now they have no excuse for their sin”. Modern translations use the word ‘excuse’ for cloak or covering. Jesus is teaching that His coming swept away any excuse man felt he was able to make for his sin.\nThere is no excuse for the sinner continuing that way because Jesus’ blood cleanses from all sin.\nThere is no excuse to continue in sin because Jesus is able to prevent you from falling.\nNone can say he or she is too weak when Christ promises to fill with His strength. None can claim ignorance of the way when Jesus has gone before.\nIf there is then no place we can hide from the all seeing eye of the Lord Jesus\, the obvious thing to do is to surrender to His claims and make Jesus Lord indeed.

SUMMARY:"I am better off dead than alive" [Jonah 4:3(GNB)]
DESCRIPTION:“I am better off dead than alive”. Have you ever heard such nonsense? – and from a prophet of the Lord\, too! Yet Jonah has not been the last to adopt this attitude.\nHe\, like many others since\, did not get his own way in the path God had chosen for him and so became unhappy and adopted this peevish attitude. He would have been better off acknowledging God’s goodness in sparing the inhabitants of Nineveh when they repented and turned to the Lord.\nNotwithstanding\, besides being given a second chance to go and preach to Nineveh\, the story of Jonah’s three days in the belly of the great fish became a prophetic sign of the three days Jesus was to be in the grave.

SUMMARY:"too wonderful" [Psalm 139:6]
DESCRIPTION:“too wonderful”. The Psalmist cannot find words that adequately describe the Lord and what He has done for him. First\, he tries to describe how the Lord knows all about him. Then he shows us how impossible it is to flee from the Lord – He is in the uttermost parts of sea and earth\, in the deepest corners of hell and darkness.\nHe shows how this great God extends His loving care and all these make him resolve he will praise the Lord.\nAnd how much more should we praise the Lord! Called to repent and believe the gospel to receive the assurance of salvation; holding the precious promise of Jesus that He is with us always. Too wonderful\, but enough to fill our hearts with thanks and praise!

SUMMARY:"Why this waste? " [Matthew 26:8(NIV)]
DESCRIPTION:“Why this waste? “. The disciples confused hoarding with saving\, and using with wasting\, when they made this unkind remark about the woman who poured her flask of costly fragrant oil upon their Master.\nWhat use is the most treasured and valuable possession stored away? Its only real use is that when the opportunity arises someone may benefit from it.\nThis is just what this woman did. She saved what she had until she could give it to Jesus. How many of us are doing the same?\nWhat you have should be given to the Lord at the first opportunity\, not the last. That applies to the cup of cold water in His Name\, as well as the investment of the pound He has given you.

SUMMARY:"Even those who challenge God escape" [Malachi 3:15]
DESCRIPTION:p>“Even those who challenge God escape”. There are those who deliberately flout God’s laws and seem to get away with it. As Malachi said\, ‘the evildoers prosper’\, whilst those who do right often suffer oppression and hardship. You may have experienced this sort of injustice personally or with someone close to you.\nThe cry of saints down the centuries has been ‘How long?’ How long will God stand by? How long will He let them get away with it whilst the innocent suffer? The Lord’s reply through Malachi is that a day is coming when He will bring His justice to bear and all who have lived His way will be honoured\, whilst those who have challenged Him will not escape. Along with Abraham\, we can say ‘will not the judge of all the earth do right?’

SUMMARY:"We'll go with you" [John 21:3(NIV)]
DESCRIPTION:“We’ll go with you”. Not always the wise thing to say\, for even the best can be misguided and to go with them would be a mistake. On the other hand companionship\, especially when it is extended to those who are cast down\, is a kindness. It was when the other disciples agreed to go fishing with Peter on his abortive trip that they met Jesus.\nThe incident serves to remind us that the Lord is mindful of our actions whether we act alone or in consort and that doing things with the best intention will be rewarded.\nMaybe Peter went fishing to take his mind off his present circumstances. Whatever the reason\, Jesus met him and those with him and He will do the same with us even when we go on some exercise without His blessing.

SUMMARY:"who loves to be first" [III John 9(NIV)]
DESCRIPTION:“who loves to be first”. Diotrephes became the cause of much upset within the local Church because of this unchecked desire. The way of the world is to push oneself\, trample on others and shout the loudest – if you want to succeed. But things are different in Christ’s kingdom. Those wanting to be great must be servants and those wanting to be first must be the slave to others. Strong words that don’t sit easily into today’s society.\nFalse humility is not what it’s about but a change of heart which is the work of the Holy Spirit. There’s a joy and delight that comes with real service for the Lord that the world’s highest positions cannot give. It is also noticed by the One who gives lasting reward. Be happy to be last so that Jesus is first in your life.

SUMMARY:"Neither was there any among them that lacked" [Acts 4:34]
DESCRIPTION:“Neither was there any among them that lacked”. These words obviously apply to material comforts. When the number making up the Early Church was small this was the case.\nToday the picture is somewhat different though persecution in some parts makes brethren glad to adopt the same policy.\nChristians are today scattered around the world and time and distance prevent the sort of help that existed in the Early Church. Even so\, we must be aware of others’ needs. It is not enough to say we have given help to others: we must ascertain that what we have given is of sufficient help. Though both local and international scenes have changed almost beyond recognition\, each of us can still help our brother on a one-to-one basis.

SUMMARY:"David perceived that the Lord had established him king" [II Samuel 5:12]
DESCRIPTION:“David perceived that the Lord had established him king”. David had been both hero of the people and hounded by the monarch since he left the sheepfold. He had led a band of crooks and debtors who came to serve under him in the wilderness and for a year or so had gone over with his men to the other side to fight against Israel. In all this his faith in God had become stronger and he appreciated something of what God was doing. Now\, though still but thirty years of age\, he found himself on the throne and no doubt recalled the way he was anointed ten or more years before.\nHe did not attribute his arrival in the place to his own strength or skill\, but to the Lord. We all appreciate God’s help when we feel we need it. Do we remember that all true promotion comes from the Lord?

SUMMARY:"feed me with the food that is needful for me" [Proverbs 30:8(RSV)]
DESCRIPTION:“feed me with the food that is needful for me”. A glance at the first part of this verse from the Words of Agur will show that he asked to have neither poverty nor riches. Both can be equally damaging. The writer wanted the Lord to give him just that diet that would enable him to please his Creator and achieve that for which he was created.\nGod knows what is best for each one of us: He is the One to ask. Our own inclinations and even the counsel of a trusted friend can be flawed. It is not merely asking\, but accepting the answer given that is needed and sometimes this is the most difficult.\nRecognise the hand of the Lord in whatever befalls you. And this is best achieved by staying close beside the Lord. Walk with Him and know your need met!

SUMMARY:"And this is eternal life" [John 17:3(RAV)]
DESCRIPTION:“And this is eternal life”. Man has been created with both the desire and propensity to live. Most people do not want to die. Man knows he must die\, but he thinks about that as little as he can!\nThis zest for living displays itself in a number of ways. One aspect is the way in which man readily accepts the idea of life after death and the way that hope colours the imaginative picture that all will be well at last.\nJesus came to turn fond dream into reality. He gives reason to what otherwise is mere fantasy. He deals with the problem of death – the merit of His atoning death on the cross was confirmed by the resurrection. He came from heaven and made a way back to heaven for all who will follow it. Those who tread that way find God and knowing God is life eternal\, Jesus said.

SUMMARY:"rejoice in all the good things the Lord your God has given to you" [Deuteronomy 26:11(NIV)]
DESCRIPTION:“rejoice in all the good things the Lord your God has given to you”. There is great strength and blessing in recognising what the Lord has done for you. Moses was instructed by God to bring this truth before the Children of Israel and to rejoice is what God’s Word would have us do in our lives today.\nThe Lord has done great things for you. He silently plans in love for every one of His children. Rejoice in Him: thank Him for His goodness: praise Him for who He is: believe His word: stand on the promises.\nGod’s People should be a rejoicing people: not rejoicing in their achievement but in what God has given them – the blessing of sin forgiven\, restored peace with God and purpose in life and hope of heaven. Rejoice!

SUMMARY:"The Lord was ready to save me" [Isaiah 38:20]
DESCRIPTION:“The Lord was ready to save me”. Hezekiah had let his life get into a mess. Perhaps not so noticeable on the outside\, but enough for God to give him notice to put things in order. For this reason Hezekiah called on God to save him.\nThe Lord mercifully did so\, with the result that Hezekiah could look back\, not so much on the unsatisfactory aspects of his life\, as on God’s readiness to save.\nToday it is not to what extent we have failed in the past\, for we all have known failure. It is whether in our past there have been occasions when we found the Lord ready to save us when we called upon Him that matters.\n‘Ready to save’ means that we only have ourselves to blame if we do not receive God’s bounteous gift.

DESCRIPTION:“treasure hid”. The kingdom of heaven is like hidden treasure because men are meeting it every day\, yet do not know it.\nThere are some who appreciate something of the wonder heaven must hold yet do not know where to begin looking for it.\nFrom others it is hidden by what seems like scales over their eyes: they will tell you they just cannot see it!\nBut Jesus said\, ‘Seek and you will find’\, and when a man does find this treasure\, whether by chance or after much searching\, he goes all out to secure its blessing.\nThe kingdom of heaven may be hidden\, but it will yield its treasure to those who earnestly seek it.\nHidden from most\, but revealed to babes\, as Jesus said\, and the discovery brings great joy.

DESCRIPTION:“Your word\, Lord\, is eternal”. God’s Word is eternal – not the pages of the Bible\, but the revealed counsel and plan of God found in the Bible and conveyed to us by the Spirit of God. Those who will not accept what they cannot see are devoid of faith and miss God’s blessing in their lives.\nBelieve God and see His hand in your life and in more ways than you could imagine. SUMMARY:"And the Lord preserved David whithersoever he went" [II Samuel 8:6]
DESCRIPTION:“And the Lord preserved David whithersoever he went”. King David’s life was a busy one. In an age that in many respects is far removed from ours\, he busied himself about the Lord’s business. Yet in his energetic campaigns to subdue his enemies he did not lose the blessing of communion with the Lord.\nThe age in which we live can be equally if not more busy. We travel further and faster than David and the pressures of business and of everyday living are in some respects more intense. Yet unless we can bear testimony that the Lord is with us wherever we go\, our rushing around here and there is futile. The surest way to know God’s preservation order on your life is to be wholly dedicated to Him and continually doing His business and bidding.

SUMMARY:"shall be saved" [Acts 2:21]
DESCRIPTION:“shall be saved”. Call upon the name of the Lord – in faith\, of course\, otherwise it is not a sincere call – and you will be saved.\nIt is a present hope of a future salvation – saved from the wrath to come – and a present experience of sin forgiven.\nNo longer condemned but assured that through the merit of the blood Jesus shed\, you have passed from death to life.\nAnd if you wonder about this experience\, let me ask “Have you called on the name of the Lord?” This is something that is done very definitely and personally. It is not asking whether you gradually became a Christian\, but did you call on the Lord to save you?\nIf you did\, then you have this pledge that God gives – “shall be saved”. SUMMARY:"the son of Pharaoh's daughter" [Hebrews 11:24(NIV)]
DESCRIPTION:“the son of Pharaoh’s daughter”. It would have been all so easy. Still in contact with his mother who had been deputed to be his nurse\, but brought up in Pharaoh’s palace\, Moses had been rescued by Pharaoh’s daughter from his cot hidden in the bulrushes when he ought to have been slain along with other Hebrew babies. He could easily have lived as Pharaoh’s son but Moses refused.\nThe easy way was not the attractive one for Moses. He was aware that he belonged to God’s people.\nGod’s way is the only one for the true child of God. The way of the world is very attractive and tempts many to turn away.\n“The son of Pharaoh’s daughter” typifies any number of honours the devil will bestow on those who worship him. Every one must be resisted.

SUMMARY:"they marvelled at his answer" [Luke 20:26]
DESCRIPTION:“they marvelled at his answer”. Elsewhere we read that the common people heard Jesus gladly. This contrasted with the leaders of the Jews who criticised and found fault. While the unbeliever finds fault\, those who believe should increasingly marvel at the wonder found in Jesus.\nSo it is not primarily what others think\, but what you think that matters. The chief priests and scribes tried to trick Jesus into deciding either against Caesar or God. His reply to render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar’s and to God the things that are God’s surprised them all.\nYet there is more than marvelling; it is doing His bidding. And in a world that demands we pay our dues\, are we also careful to be rendering due obedience to the Lord today?

SUMMARY:"Set your house in order" [Isaiah 38:1(RAV)]
DESCRIPTION:“Set your house in order”. It is surprising how quickly things get untidy and out of place. The more there is going on\, the more one needs to ensure that things are in order.\nHezekiah was told to set his house in order because the time had come for him to vacate his ‘temple of clay’. He was really quite privileged to have this advance notice\, inasmuch as he was offered a little time in which to do this. Most of us do not get notice to quit in this way\, or if we do we do not appreciate the message.\nWhat would a survey of your estate bring to light? Might a little setting in order and tidying up of loose ends be not out of place?

SUMMARY:"Enter by the narrow gate" [Matthew 7:13(RSV)]
DESCRIPTION:“Enter by the narrow gate”. Those seeking the way into the kingdom of heaven make a big mistake when they look for massive pearly gates. These are reserved to hang at the entrances to the New Jerusalem. It is a small gate\, easily missed\, you should be looking for. Jesus said\, ‘Few there be that find it’. Possibly the massive doors to be found at the entrance to some of our cathedrals and churches or the pomp and ceremony that has become attached to some parts of the Christian church are misleading.\nIt is only by stooping in humility at the foot of the Cross you will enter the kingdom of heaven. Denying oneself\, taking up one’s cross and enduring affliction are not things we would naturally look for. But they are companions of the greatest joy the heart can know.

SUMMARY:"The Lord is righteous in all his ways" [Psalm 145:17]
DESCRIPTION:“The Lord is righteous in all his ways”. Recognising this truth enables us to accept and thank Him for all He sends and the way He leads. We cannot see far ahead. We need either consciously\, as in the case of a believer\, or unconsciously in the case of those who do not know the Lord\, to commit our way to Him.\nIt is so wonderfully reassuring when you know that the way of the Lord is the right way. It is the way of truth – there is no deviation from what is right. It is a way about which you will at no time in the future be ashamed.\nIt is a way of peace because the God of peace will be with you no matter how turbulent things become.\nYou can be sure He will lead you to His heavenly abode. Your need is to commit your way to His leading.

SUMMARY:"But the thing that David had done displeased the Lord" [II Samuel 11:27]
DESCRIPTION:“But the thing that David had done displeased the Lord”. David no doubt thought he had sewn up the matter. The whole thing was over as far as he was concerned.\nThe incident makes a sorry picture of failure and intrigue. Nobody acted honourably except Uriah and he lost his life as a result. David was not content with the women he had. Bath-sheba offered no resistance to his advances and Joab\, the army commander\, acted in collusion as David carefully covered over his sin. The fact that innocent men were sacrificed didn’t seem to matter. Does this happen today?\nBut David forgot to consider what God thought about it all. It is of no use whatever to make a good job of covering your tracks if what you’ve done displeases the Lord.

SUMMARY:"you have kept the good wine until now" [John 2:10(RAV)]
DESCRIPTION:“you have kept the good wine until now”. These words spoken by the master of the wedding feast accurately describe the experience of every disciple who walks close beside His Lord.\nFor the Christian\, today must be the best yet\, though we are assured that better still is yet to come. Use all past experience gained to enter into a new experience with your Lord today. Every turn in the path of the pilgrim brings new avenues of service\, new blessings in ministry to others\, new heights to be climbed in inspiration and worship.\nThe best time in your life is now: add today to what you gleaned yesterday and brace yourself for greater things still tomorrow. Recognise that God has ordered your day and find that He often leaves the ‘good wine’ till last.

SUMMARY:"fruitful in every good work" [Colossians 1:10]
DESCRIPTION:“fruitful in every good work”. Jesus told His disciples He had chosen and ordained them that they might bring forth fruit. The Apostle Paul’s prayer was that fruitfulness should extend to all the good we do.\nIt is God’s pleasure to give a measure of fruitfulness in every department of a Christian’s life and service. Jesus said in His parable of the Sower that some seed brought forth fruit – some an hundredfold\, some sixtyfold and some thirtyfold – and this is a picture of the Christian who grows in grace and in the knowledge of his Lord. We should not confuse fruit-bearing with worldly success.\nThe success of this world can disappear overnight. The fruit the Christian bears is of eternal value. And it is such fruit that we are commissioned to go and bring forth to God’s glory today.

SUMMARY:"I will feed them in a good pasture" [Ezekiel 34:14]
DESCRIPTION:“I will feed them in a good pasture”. Sheep of the Great Shepherd are assured of the very best if they will feed where the Lord leads them.\nSuch provision is made irrespective of the distance they had wandered or what persuasion was needed to bring them back. Punishment does not extend to deprivation of the finest pasture once there has been true repentance and restoration.\nThe Lord will lead you to heavenly pasture\, the high mountains as well as the valleys. Good grazing land and fat pasture shall be the order of the day. Though the table is set in the midst of your enemies\, it will be loaded with bounties none-the-less.\nFollow the Good Shepherd into the large place of blessing He has for you today.

SUMMARY:"he sent them into his vineyard" [Matthew 20:2]
DESCRIPTION:“he sent them into his vineyard”. This world can be likened to the Lord’s vineyard. We have not been placed here to dream out our lives in idleness or luxury.\nWe have to dig the soil and sow the seed\, be it in time or dedication or sacrifice\, if we are to reap an eternal harvest.\nAnd it is the unseen qualities that are important. What we can see or handle will be left behind\, no matter how much or many we have collected.\nTime spent in this vineyard helping the needy\, attending to the suffering\, uplifting the downcast and preaching the gospel to the poor is the labour that will gain an eternal reward. This parable reminds us that the Lord sends us out into wherever in the world He has placed us.
