SUMMARY:"be strong in the Lord" [Ephesians 6:10]
DESCRIPTION:“be strong in the Lord”. Only in the Lord will you find strength to carry the campaign of life to a successful conclusion. Here are some of the strengths available to you in the Lord: \npower to resist the Devil and to stand firm in the face of temptation\, \npower to witness to His saving grace in your life when the opportunity is presented to you\, \npower to sustain you in the hour of crises and trial\, \npower to stand firm when all seems to be collapsing around you\, \npower not to retaliate when slandered\, \npower to reach out and help others. \nThere is power in the Lord Jesus to meet your need whatever it is.

SUMMARY:‘Moses whom they refused’ [Acts 7:35]
DESCRIPTION:‘Moses whom they refused’. These words are taken from Stephen’s sermon – recorded at length in the Acts of the Apostles\, no doubt to give a lead to preachers in all generations.\nThe Children of Israel did refuse Moses when he acted impetuously in slaying an Egyptian and no doubt he thought he had lost any chance of leadership during his forty years’ exile.\nBut he whom the people refused\, God sent to be a ruler and a deliverer. The Lord fulfils His purpose and calling.\nRefusal of those whom God chooses is still quite common. They can push you into a siding for a while but God will see to it you do not go off the rails!\nAngels still visit those who are outcasts or in prison. Let man’s refusal be God’s opportunity all in His good time.

SUMMARY:‘If anyone wants to boast’ [Jeremiah 9:24 (GNB)]
DESCRIPTION:‘If anyone wants to boast’. We generally discourage boasting but here the Lord says that anyone wanting to boast should boast that he knows and understands Me.\nWe read here that wise men boast of their wisdom\, strong men of their strength and rich men of their wealth. Knowing the Lord means a recognition of His great love and mercy: understanding that He does what is just and right. He died for our sins: He provides our salvation.\nThe Apostle Paul said that he would glory in the cross. We can and must boast in what God can do.\nHe comes to our aid when we are unable to save ourselves: He keeps us in life’s treacherous paths: He cleanses and sanctifies us and presents us before His Father and gives the gift of eternal life. We boast in Him.

SUMMARY:‘a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions’ [Luke 12:15 (RSV)]
DESCRIPTION:‘a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions’. There is a desire in the heart of man to possess and own. Collecting a little usually creates the desire to have more.\nSo we mistakenly ask ‘What is he worth?’ meaning what does he possess. The fallacy is obvious when at the end of life all has to be left behind. In the light of this we ask\, ‘Is there nothing more in life than what we leave behind?’ Even when we try to assess what a person has done\, we have to recognise that he or she is doing no more.\nSome other scale must be found. Is there no link between earth and heaven\, no way that we may keep what is done now?\nJesus said that believing in Him imparts everlasting life\, that the one who believes will not perish. This is the pearl of greatest price and worth selling all to obtain.

SUMMARY:‘Wouldn't it be better for us to go back to Egypt? ‘ [Numbers 14:3 (NIV)]
DESCRIPTION:‘Wouldn’t it be better for us to go back to Egypt? . There will always be those who want to turn back at the first sign of problem or distress. In this case it was a large majority of the Children of Israel that sought this.\nSometimes we fail to advertise the hardships there are in the Christian pathway. We make what is difficult look very attractive. Maybe this increases the number of desertions.\nThe attraction is the goal at the end of the race\, the glory that is to follow the life-long campaign. The attractions of Egypt were real but the prospect they afforded unacceptable. Most of all was the disregard for God’s mighty deliverance and promises He had made. On the high-road to heaven there can be no going back. ‘Forward’ is the command and God’s promise the provision.

SUMMARY:‘Do not be afraid of sudden terror’ [Proverbs 3:25 (RAV)]
DESCRIPTION:‘Do not be afraid of sudden terror’. If we use the God-given gifts of sound wisdom and discretion we may ask Him for wisdom in conducting our lives. Those who do so will walk safely\, their foot will not stumble. They will lie down and not be afraid. Their sleep will be sweet and uninterrupted.\nSudden calamity may come but it will not cause terror. Trouble can be unpleasant but it need not disturb the deep peace that trust in the Lord gives.\nTrust in the Lord makes the Lord your confidence. He triumphed and by His grace\, so will you. He never fails though our failure to understand makes it necessary for us to trust where we cannot see.\nWhen terror does strike\, those who walk with the Lord in the noonday can have confidence in Him in the dark night.

SUMMARY:‘to us\, or to everyone? ‘ [Luke 12:41 (NIV)]
DESCRIPTION:‘to us\, or to everyone? ‘. Peter asked this of Jesus’ words when He spoke of being ready because the Son of Man will come at an hour when He is not expected. Each of us needs to hear God speaking to us. When all we read and hear of the gospel message and responsibility is general\, it loses its conviction. We hide behind or with everyone else whereas the gospel singles us out.\nGod’s word may be read by all but it must speak to you.\nWhether repentance and forgiveness of sins or obedience to Christ in the path you take\, it is God’s word to you that counts. The Holy Spirit conveys the will of God for you. What others will do is another thing.\nThe word\, the promise\, the power and enabling are to us. We need to hear\, trust and obey.

SUMMARY:‘a wall of fire round about’ [Zechariah 2:5]
DESCRIPTION:‘a wall of fire round about’. It may have been that the prophet was thinking of the shepherds lighting fires around the unfenced city of Jerusalem and likening it to God’s protection for His people.\nThe protection of the Lord spells safety to His People\, as the pillar of fire between the Israelites and the pursuing hosts of Egyptians reminds us. The city of Jerusalem was without walls and must have presented a valuable target to those who did not appreciate the protection that God afforded her. The same may be erroneously applied to the Christian. How weak and defenceless he may seem in the world. The quality of meekness seems out of place until he realises that the Lord is a wall of fire about him. It is this wall of fire that makes your position unassailable.
