“he steadfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem” [Luke 9:51]
“he steadfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem”. Jesus’ task was greater than anyone living had ever performed or ever could perform. The path that lay before Him was one of suffering. He who was holy, harmless and undefiled was to bear the sin of the world and be sacrificed as the Lamb of God after the cruel trial and mocking in Jerusalem.
He did so and triumphed gloriously over sin and death and became a living Saviour and Lord, risen from the dead and alive for evermore. He did so because at a certain point in His life on earth, when Jerusalem and all it held came before Him, He steadfastly set His face as a flint, determined to go ahead and pay the price for our ransom.
Realisation of this must cause our hearts to well up in praise and adoration for our glorious Lord Jesus.
