“Abdon … had forty sons and thirty grandsons, who rode on seventy donkeys” [Judges 12:13,14(NIV)]

“Abdon … had forty sons and thirty grandsons, who rode on seventy donkeys”. This is an unusual way to describe Abdon who judged Israel for eight years. Yet it emphasizes the importance the Lord attaches to families. And in a day when the family is under threat this is a good reminder.
It must have been a common sight – Abdon’s seventy donkeys and their riders.
We need to pray for godly families where sons and grandsons follow in their father’s path of right. The saying goes – “the family that prays together stays together”. If it took a throng of donkeys to keep the boys happy, it was money well spent.
Happy are those families that are bound together with Christ’s love.
