“how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter the kingdom of God”. This is because you can’t trust your riches and trust the Lord. You should know that to trust riches is failure in the long run, but most ignore this. The Bible says that the love of money is the root of all evil. There must be a willingness to forego this world’s riches to find Christ. Until this is done you may be like the merchant with many pearls but as yet without the pearl of great price. So the difficulty for many intelligent, educated and experienced people, is not to adapt to the narrow way described by Jesus. It is to let slip the gaudy glitter of this world’s treasure.
But the choice is there. Hang on to this world as long as you can, yet you will lose it someday. Take Christ and you will receive eternal life.
