“now he commands all men everywhere to repent” [Acts 17:30(RAV)]

“now he commands all men everywhere to repent”. These words are taken from the Apostle Paul’s sermon on Mars Hill Athens, after he had seen the altar they had erected “to the Unknown God.” He told of the true God’s dealings with men in time past. Now, since Jesus came, God is looking for those who will repent and turn from their evil and superstitious ways.
This is the first step to receiving the gospel, believing in Christ and being saved. It is like a right-about turn. It calls for renouncing the wrong and it can attract ridicule and opposition from those who will not turn themselves. By very nature it is a definite act and it is the important step in the right direction.
Without it, the would-be Christian is walking backwards.
