“Sarah your wife shall bear you a son” [Genesis 17:19(RAV)]

“Sarah your wife shall bear you a son” .When Abraham suggested to God that Ishmael would be the son through whom God would fulfil His promises, the Lord repeated that Sarah would bear him a son.
When there appears to be delay in the fulfilment of a promise, we are not out of place to seek confirmation. It is natural to question whether it is His promise or our imagination. When it is God’s promise He may be expected to confirm it to us.
Sarah had doubted the promise and offered her maid as a compromise. Ishmael was born but the whole thing was a failure. Then it was Abraham’s turn to doubt and offer to accept Ishmael as substitute.
But God reiterated His promise and miraculously fulfilled it. Delaying the answer enhanced the miracle.
