“The hope of the righteous shall be gladness”. Hopes and aspirations can change quite considerably as life goes on. When we think of some of the things we hoped for we wonder where our sense was.
Hope can fade – in later years it generally does: to see it fade in a younger person is sadness indeed.
Hopes are sometimes dashed – usually bringing a period of remorse from which we sometimes despair of ever emerging.
Those who do what is right shall know a hope that brings gladness – even though it is at times eclipsed by present sorrow and stress.
Those who do what is right turn to God for wisdom and guidance: recognising their own inadequacy and weakness they make the Lord their strength.
