“this is the promise … even eternal life”. It is the greatest promise of all – it grasps a prize beyond the grave and places it in the heart of those who make Jesus Lord.
Because it is God’s promise, it conveys real hope to the hearts of those who believe it. All who do, recognise that it is made upon the efficacy of the sacrifice of God’s Son for sin upon Golgotha’s Cross. It is granted upon the merit of the complete cleansing brought about by the precious blood of Jesus that enables a believer to live for ever.
The wages of sin is death: but eternal life is God’s gift to those who will take Jesus as personal Saviour. That atoning death saves those who believe. Eternal life is the possession of those who stand upon God’s promise.
