“this waste of the ointment” [Mark 14:4]

“this waste of the ointment”. Opinion on whether ointment is wasted or not varies – a fact very obvious when this woman anointed the feet of Jesus.
His enemies said it was a waste, He said it would be an everlasting memorial of her. It really depends on what your objectives are. She loved Him for who He was and how He had come down among us. Breaking this box of ointment was something she could do. It was an expression of her love and Jesus recognised it as such.
What you do out of love for the Lord will be misinterpreted by others. Those who only spend on themselves will be certain to criticise any who give to the Lord. The people who call giving to the Lord “waste”, may be sincere but they are sincerely wrong. This was not waste but putting all she had to the best possible use.
