“those who are … unstable twist” [II Peter 3:16(RAV)]

July 6

“those who are … unstable twist”. The Apostle Peter refers to things in Paul’s Epistles which are hard to understand. These references were not made in any derogatory manner but as a warning to those who twist Scriptures for their own use.
The danger is that when we find something we do not like in the Bible we turn it around to mean something that better suits our thinking or conforms to some special revelation we think we have. Our great need is for the Holy Spirit to illumine those things we find difficult to understand. Rather than make the hard verse fit into what you already believe, why not ask the Holy Spirit to reveal some new blessing He has for you from the Word of God today?
Whatever you do, don’t change the meaning – twisting Scripture is only done to the destruction of the soul.
