“you have put all my sins behind your back” [Isaiah 38:17(NIV)]

“you have put all my sins behind your back”. Hezekiah had just been granted an extension to his life after God had told him to put his house in order because he was about to die. He had been very distressed about this and pleaded his case before the Lord. And the Lord confirmed by a miracle that Hezekiah’s prayer had been heard. The shadow on Hezekiah’s sundial went back ten steps.
Hezekiah, though a godly king, was sinful as we all are, and he was told that God had put all his sins behind His back. Today we know that to be gloriously real when we confess our sin and receive the forgiveness made possible by the death of Jesus on the cross. This is a truth that lifts the burden from the spirit.
