“the tradition of the elders”. Some tradition provides a good foundation for life and duty. Other tradition is of little importance. Resistance against change and new blessings God would give us, we must guard against.
Tradition can be like unnecessary baggage that we carry around with us.
In Jesus’ day tradition had got out of hand. God would lead us into new pasture and bestow new mercies upon us every morning. We need to take care our line is not clogged with the “always done it this way” that stifles life at birth. Ceremonial washing means nothing compared with the cleansing Jesus gives within.
The careful clearing out of tradition when it is like dead wood might be just what we need.
