“What are you doing here, Elijah? ” [I Kings 19:9 & 13 (RAV)]
May 11
“What are you doing here, Elijah? “. It is clear from this question that the Lord is interested and concerned about us when we have lost confidence and interest in ourselves. It also shows that He is not prepared to allow disaffection among His servants to go unattended.
Furthermore, it is a question that opens the way for help to be given and reinstatement to begin. The point we should note is not so much where you are as the fact that God is aware of you and wanting to establish contact.
Elijah possibly thought he could run away from his obligation as a prophet and that that in turn would sever his communication with the Lord. It was not so. And neither is it so for you and me. We can all learn from Elijah’s experience.
