“visit the fatherless and widows” [James 1:27]

September 17

“visit the fatherless and widows” .Practical Christian living must pay special attention to orphans and widows. In fact, James says that the truth of one’s faith is characterised by it. There is an old saying “a ha’porth (half penny) of help is worth more than a cart load of pity” and the Apostle tells us we are to visit those in need and no doubt to take help and speak a word of comfort.
Nothing can really take the place of a visit, though other ministries are important. The visitor should recognise the affliction that these people suffer. Best of all is when the visitor can say “I know because I’ve been there”.
Will someone be getting such a visit from you today? Or are you the one in need of the visit. Both give opportunity for the expression of what James calls “pure religion”.
