“and there he called on the name of the Lord” [Genesis 21:33(NIV)]
October 10
“and there he called on the name of the Lord”. It is good when you reach a point in your life when you see the need to call upon the Lord – to plead for His personal intervention in your case. The circumstance that made Abraham do this arose out of contention he had with Abimelech king of Gerar in whose territory he was staying. It concerned a well that Abimelech’s servants had apparently seized and hindered Abraham’s servants from using.
A small matter (if you were not involved) but one out of which good came because the two men entered into a treaty at Beersheba and did not allow the incident to spoil their relationship. Best of all, it made Abraham call upon the Lord with thanksgiving and for His continued presence in the days that lay ahead. We need to emulate him today.
