“Arise, and do not be afraid” [Matthew 17:7(RAV)]
November 3, 2023
“Arise, and do not be afraid”. The disciples fell on their faces and were greatly afraid when the voice of God the Father was heard on the Mount of Transfiguration.
No human eye can gaze upon God and no ear catch His voice without great consternation gripping the heart.
But for the disciple the eye of faith must see and the ear of the heart receive, if there is to be a ratification of the work of redemption in the heart. Whether the penitent or the backslider or the abject failures we all know ourselves to be at times, the awfulness of God’s holiness strikes fear into our frail spirits.
On these occasions Jesus, our Mediator, summons us to stand up and not be afraid. They stand firmest who first fall at Jesus’ feet.
