“Better a little with righteousness than much gain with injustice” [Proverbs 16:8(NIV)]

“Better a little with righteousness than much gain with injustice”. So it is not how much you have, but how you came by it. All too often this world’s assessors look at the end and ignore the means whereby it was reached. You can reach the top by treading on other people – but the pinnacle is then for ever precarious.
The Lord has regard to the means. He rewards the trier as well as the one who succeeds. Righteousness exalts a nation and is required of the individual too. Some years ago, a salesman left his job selling animal foodstuffs, because to sell any of his product he needed to make false claims about it. He was out of work for a time before taking a less remunerative position. He found that the little he had was better than the lot more that weighed on his conscience.
