“For the Lamb … will be their shepherd”. Here is a wonderful turn of phrase. Lambs usually need to be cared for by the shepherd, but in the Kingdom of God it is the Lamb who becomes the shepherd. John the Baptist spoke of Christ as the ‘Lamb of God’ who would be offered as the sacrifice for sins. Jesus spoke of himself as the good shepherd who would give his life for the sheep. Both are brought together in this glimpse into the heavenly realms as Christ takes his rightful place at the centre of the throne.
The One who was led out to be crucified now leads the saints in safety. The One who cried ‘I thirst’ now provides springs of living water. The One who came in humility will come again in glory and triumph. Worthy is the Lamb! [AP]
