“fruitful in every good work” [Colossians 1:10]
August 18
“fruitful in every good work”. Jesus told His disciples He had chosen and ordained them that they might bring forth fruit. The Apostle Paul’s prayer was that fruitfulness should extend to all the good we do.
It is God’s pleasure to give a measure of fruitfulness in every department of a Christian’s life and service. Jesus said in His parable of the Sower that some seed brought forth fruit – some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold and some thirtyfold – and this is a picture of the Christian who grows in grace and in the knowledge of his Lord. We should not confuse fruit-bearing with worldly success.
The success of this world can disappear overnight. The fruit the Christian bears is of eternal value. And it is such fruit that we are commissioned to go and bring forth to God’s glory today.
