“I have suffered many things this day in a dream” .[Matthew 27:19]

April 16

“I have suffered many things this day in a dream”. Was Pilate’s wife a devout and spiritual lady, because she had such disturbing dreams? Her name was probably Claudia and tradition made her a proselyte to Judaism. She may have been the Claudia mentioned by Paul in his Second Letter to Timothy.
She stands out in the Gospel’s narrative as one dissident voice against the injustice of the mock trial and sentencing to death of Jesus. She urgently conveyed her fears to Pilate.
She joins the small band of women who knew great anguish of spirit when our Saviour was apprehended and tried. She is like a candle of piety in the darkest hour of history. Her tender heart responded to a dream about the momentous events taking place. Thank God for women like her.
