”they … supposed that they had seen a spirit” [Luke 24:37]
December 21
”they … supposed that they had seen a spirit”. A silly question often asked when I was at primary school was, ‘Do you believe in ghosts?’ The Bible makes no attempt to hide the reality and influence of a spirit world. Any attempt at contact or communication with it is strictly forbidden. Seeing a ghost or spirit is not something the majority of us relish. Mistaken identity on this point made the disciples cry out for fear.
Wrong identity or not, when it is Jesus who reveals Himself to us, that revelation brings peace and joy. There is a world of difference between a spirit and the spiritual. To be spiritually minded is life and peace. To have seen the Lord, no matter how startling at first, is a never-to-be-forgotten up-lifting experience, and one that can happen when least expected.
