”waiting for the moving of the water” [John 5:3]

December 2

”waiting for the moving of the water”. The crowd clustered beneath the arches around Bethesda’s pool were clutching at a straw. The chance each had of healing was very small. Some of the ‘moving waters’ mankind still waits for are – to be left a fortune; to win the pools; become famous: have better luck next time; enjoy an easy life; experience perfect bliss! All are an illusion.
Yet there is something in life worth waiting for, though it may elude some for a long time. It is an encounter with the living Christ Who rose from the grave 2,000 years ago. It is this that has brought peace and purpose to His disciples ever since.
Waiting is worthwhile when it is the Lord Who is coming.
