“But now bring me a harpist” [II Kings 3:15(NIV)]

July 19, 2024

“But now bring me a harpist”. Several times in the Bible we find an instrumentalist playing to soothe or inspire the troubled mind. In this case Elisha was disturbed to face the evil king of Israel who had come for advice along with the king of Judah.
In the early days of his employment in the court of the king, the young David played the harp to soothe the evil spirit that came upon Saul – though not always with success, for on one occasion when he was playing, Saul threw his spear and tried to pin him to the wall.
The important thing is that God uses music to bring blessing and uplift to the hearer. And it was a sad day when the harpists among the captives in Babylon hung their harps on the willow branches and ceased to play.
