“Behold, I am here, Lord” [Acts 9:10]

July 18

“Behold, I am here, Lord”. It was as though Ananias was just waiting for the Lord to give him instructions. It would come as no surprise that the Lord spoke to him by a vision. We wonder whether he would have been so ready to be told if he had known he was to be sent to the arch enemy of the Christians – Saul of Tarsus. In the event, he was very glad that he did go and become the first to contact one who became the Apostle Paul. There is always joy in doing what God tells us.
His instructions often seem impossible, sometimes dangerous and at times opposite to what we would expect.
But once we are certain it is the Lord, while obedience may call for courage, it brings us a sense of achievement and blessing and help to others. ‘Here I am Lord’, should be the disciple’s ‘stock in trade’.
