“God be merciful unto us, and bless us”. This prayer at the beginning of a delightful psalm acknowledges our need for mercy. We do not bring the good that we have done but our failings and sinfulness. It’s mercy that we need.
The Psalmist needed to trust in a promise for mercy; we may look back to a fulfilment. Mercy flows over from Calvary to every generation. Any needy soul that confronts the Lord cries out for mercy. It is judgment we deserve for our transgression: we call and we find Him ready to pardon, heal and restore.
