“he was reckoned among the transgressors” [Luke 22:37]
March 29
“he was reckoned among the transgressors”. What do we learn from this description of the Son of God?
First, things are not always as they appear. A glance towards Golgotha on that fateful day may have given the impression of three criminals being crucified. Closer examination shows One to be the Son of God.
Secondly, it reveals the depths to which Jesus had to descend to save us. Not only did He leave the glory of heaven and suffer the rebuttal of men, He was labelled a common villain.
Thirdly, this was the price paid to secure for us a salvation beyond price. The sin of the world was heaped upon Him and He ‘became sin for us’. If He was to atone for sin, he must be reckoned a sinner by all concerned.
This becomes a glorious truth when you can say ‘Yes, He took my sin and set me gloriously free’.
