“he was wounded for our transgressions” [Isaiah 53:5]

July 28, 2024

“he was wounded for our transgressions”. The scourging and beating, the torturous march carrying the Cross, the crucifixion and painful death are known to us all. Yet not all by any means recognise or accept that Jesus was wounded for their transgressions.
It was my sin that impaled the Son of God to the Cross. It was that I might be made whole spiritually that His body was broken.
For Christ’s work to mean anything to me I must recognise that I have transgressed God’s law. The evidence I see for this is in the sentence of death all around me. But His death, the just for the unjust, enables all who will trust Him to be brought back to God.
Without Christ’s suffering and death, all the world would need to perish. But now He who believes shall not perish but have everlasting life.
