“it grieves me very much for your sakes” [Ruth 1:13(RAV)]

January 28

“it grieves me very much for your sakes”. Naomi’s experience is something that many have known. She felt that it was her behaviour that had brought sorrow into the lives of her daughters-in-law.
It was a sorrow that she could do little about. Fleeing to Moab with her husband who then died, followed by her sons’ deaths after they had married Orpah and Ruth, brought grief.
But there was comfort then as there is comfort today for any like her because God does not desert those in such need.
Naomi’s grief was real, but so was her joy. She wanted to change her name to Mara, meaning “bitter”, but God had great blessing for her. It is the same for all who will recognise their life is in His hand.
