“Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you”. Peter’s third answer was to the effect that Jesus already knew the answer: he did love Jesus.
It was not that Jesus should know but that Peter should know, that the question was asked three times. What the Lord had done and was yet to do for Peter was to establish a bond of love that would never be broken. If Peter did not love the Lord who loved him, his calling would not be fulfilled. His faith must be bolstered or under girded by love.
It is the same with us. It is not that we agree with or believe in this or that: not that we leave this or take on the other, but that we love Jesus, that is of utmost importance. We love Him because He first loved us, must be of paramount importance.
