“She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy” [Proverbs 31:20(NIV)]

“She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy”. God has given womanhood a tenderness that can be found nowhere else. Though on occasions it falls to the man to offer succour and comfort, it is not his natural gift.
While in this verse the writer is referring specially to a wife, any woman of the house has great opportunity to extend kindness and comfort to the poor and administer help to the needy. Making the man head of the house is not enough. Unless the lady plays her God-given ministry it will be top-heavy and fall down as is seen all too often.
A home should be for life and calls for a firm foundation, a loving bond between all family members and the housewife depended upon to provide that compassion that will make all the family proud of her and grateful to her.
