“the King’s Highway” [Numbers 20:17(NIV)]
October 19
“the King’s Highway”. This is the name of the road through the land of the Edomites that Moses and the Israelites agreed to keep to if permission was given for them to pass. Any freedom-loving country values its rights of way and government should seek to make them secure.
In all of life there is one highway that is safe to travel. It can rightly be deemed “the King’s” for the King laid it from the plains of earthly life to the glory of heaven. Described in detail in the Bible, we can trace it from the man’s fall in Eden to the death of Jesus God’s Son upon the cross. Maintained by the Spirit of God it demands that we deny self and take up a cross and follow Jesus. The Edomites refused passage to Israel, but God invites all who will to tread His narrow way that leads to life.
