“the Lord blessed Obed-edom, and all his household” [II Samuel 6:11(RSV)]
August 5
“the Lord blessed Obed-edom, and all his household”. The Lord’s children should know the blessing of the Lord in their homes. God’s blessing is something to be shared and felt by all living under the same roof.
Obed-edom’s case illustrates the way in which God’s blessing should be a sign to all who see it or are affected by it. Uzzah had incurred God’s wrath by steadying the ark on the new cart that had been made. As a result the Israelites, David included, wondered what judgment to expect next. The way God blessed the house of Obed-edom where the ark of the covenant had been hurriedly taken indicated that the Lord wanted to bless rather than punish His people.
The home that today enjoys the blessing of the Lord says the same thing.
