“the Lord, the God of Israel, who has sent you today to meet me”. David found the blessing it is to meet someone like Abigail. Incensed at Nabal’s refusal to offer hospitality after his men had protected his sheep shearers, he was about to come against him in battle when he was met by Abigail. Her placating words as she brought David and his men bread and wine, dressed lamb, corn, raisins and cakes of figs, make welcome reading in the dust of battle found in these Old Testament chapters.
David recognised that it was the Lord who had sent her across his path and he thanked the Lord for this blessing.
Life still has many ugly scenes and awkward people, but God has His charming personalities who recognise their calling to be peacemakers and prevent further bloodshed. Be glad when you meet such today.
