“The people of Nineveh believed God’s message” [Jonah 3:5(GNB)]

“The people of Nineveh believed God’s message”. This was the turning point in the salvation of Nineveh – the fact they believed God’s message about impending destruction. The evidence of their belief was that they repented – from the least to the greatest – taking off their regular garments and wearing sackcloth. And God who sees the heart, saw they had changed their wicked behaviour and did not punish them as He had said.
Now, how does it stand with us? We know that as a nation we have departed from God – seeking pleasure and secular achievement rather than godliness. But a nation is made up of individuals and it is individuals who need to hear God’s message, believe it and act upon it. And we need to do so in every department of our life.
