“they marvelled at his answer” [Luke 20:26]

“they marvelled at his answer”. Elsewhere we read that the common people heard Jesus gladly. This contrasted with the leaders of the Jews who criticised and found fault. While the unbeliever finds fault, those who believe should increasingly marvel at the wonder found in Jesus.
So it is not primarily what others think, but what you think that matters. The chief priests and scribes tried to trick Jesus into deciding either against Caesar or God. His reply to render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar’s and to God the things that are God’s surprised them all.
Yet there is more than marvelling; it is doing His bidding. And in a world that demands we pay our dues, are we also careful to be rendering due obedience to the Lord today?
