“Your eyes … will see the land that is very far off” [Isaiah 33:17(RAV)]

“Your eyes … will see the land that is very far off”. This prophecy was given by Isaiah to the besieged inhabitants of Jerusalem where king Hezekiah and his suffering people longed for deliverance. It speaks prophetically to everyone who loves Jesus, of the land of heaven and God’s eternal kingdom.
When surrounded by the anxieties of this life in its day to day struggle, heaven may indeed seem far off. Sometimes the valley through which we travel is so dark and deep we wonder whether heaven exists at all or if we shall reach it.
Yet the very pathway that takes us to that land is strewn with blessing and refreshment to help the faithful on their way. And “very far off” might be quite misleading. Jesus used the words “in a little while” for heaven is only a heart-beat away.
