“David perceived that the Lord had established him king” [II Samuel 5:12]

“David perceived that the Lord had established him king”. David had been both hero of the people and hounded by the monarch since he left the sheepfold. He had led a band of crooks and debtors who came to serve under him in the wilderness and for a year or so had gone over with his men to the other side to fight against Israel. In all this his faith in God had become stronger and he appreciated something of what God was doing. Now, though still but thirty years of age, he found himself on the throne and no doubt recalled the way he was anointed ten or more years before.
He did not attribute his arrival in the place to his own strength or skill, but to the Lord. We all appreciate God’s help when we feel we need it. Do we remember that all true promotion comes from the Lord?
