“I am not worthy” [Matthew 8:8]

<b>“I am not worthy”.</b> The centurion had an opinion of himself that would be rather out of fashion today. He acknowledged he was an unworthy sinner in God’s sight; he knew he was a transgressor and felt morally unfit before Jesus.
Popular thinking today would never demand that you stoop so low as this. It would rather dwell upon the worthier aspects of human nature – making God fit into its requirement rather than complying with His demands as found in the Bible.
The Bible says all are unworthy. If you do not acknowledge sin you can see no need for an atoning sacrifice and no need for a Saviour and consequently, no joy of salvation. This man said he was not worthy and out of that unworthiness Jesus said he found the greatest faith in all Israel. It can be the same with all who are honest with God.
