“Keep yourself pure” [I Timothy 5:22(NIV)]

“Keep yourself pure”. Because the soul cleansed by the blood of Jesus can become soiled or contaminated through the environment, Paul reminded Timothy of his responsibility to keep himself pure.
The Christian cannot do as he likes. Because a thing is pleasurable and desirable does not make it permissible. Pure godly religion is to keep oneself unspotted from the world. To be constantly sinning and asking forgiveness is not acceptable. It is incompatible with growth. Sadly, the world and the church often accept a lower standard.
Sin has not lost its stain and abhorrence in God’s sight because we have changed its name or ignored it altogether.
It’s up to us. If we would advance in the Christian pathway without falling back the rule must be “Keep yourself pure!”
