“not turning aside to the right or to the left” [II Chronicles 34:2(NIV)]

January 20

“not turning aside to the right or to the left”. Josiah did what was right in God’s eyes – he did not deviate to the right or left. In striving not to veer off to the left we can deviate to the right and trying not to veer right we can stray to the left. But you could examine Josiah’s left and right boundary and find them intact. As long as we keep close to the Lord we shall not get “out on a limb”. But we need to realise we can go too far ahead as well as lag behind.
If temptation comes from a certain direction it may equally well come from the opposite direction. Strong on one point can result in weakness in another. You can be too wide (liberal) or too narrow (exclusive). Knowing the right and doing it, means turning away neither to the right nor left.
