“may the Lord forgive your servant for this one thing” [II Kings 5:18(NIV)]

“may the Lord forgive your servant for this one thing”. Naaman found himself in the unenviable position of having to do something in the course of duty that his newly awakened conscience told him was wrong.
The Lord, the God of Israel, had miraculously cleansed him of his leprosy and he was taking back to Syria (or Aram) two mule-loads of earth to establish an altar and promising never again to sacrifice to any but the Lord.
The problem came when in the course of his duty he went into the temple of Rimmon. He would need to bow to this god beside the king who would be leaning on his arm. It raised a difficult question which many since have had to face. In his case Elisha said “Go in peace.” The Lord will give us a ruling when such matters arise today.
