“You do not know what you ask” [Mark 10:38(RAV)]
December 20, 2023
“You do not know what you ask”. The Lord might say the same of some of our requests! We don’t mean to sound selfish but that is all too often what our requests are. The two questioning disciples wanted to be first. Getting to the chief seat was their number one priority.
When you ask to succeed even if it means pushing out others you have lost your way. When the blessing you seek from God is at the expense of others it is unlikely to be granted.
Jesus used this incident to show that the way up is down: those who desire greatness must become servants. It is a truth largely lost on the world today, but a basic principle of Christian discipleship all the same.
Jesus humbled Himself to serve men: no one can be a true disciple unless prepared to do the same.
