“she said, The glory is departed from Israel” [I Samuel 4:22]

“she said,The glory is departed from Israel”. These last words of Phinehas’ wife as she died in childbirth were prophetic. God through her pronounced judgment upon Israel and Ichabod, the name of her son, bore witness to this.
Gods’ glory shines in the hearts of those who obey and fear Him. It leaves when sin and rebellion take over the lives of His followers.
The many promises God made to Israel were no longer valid when the Children of Israel disobeyed Him, turned away and disowned Him: We may easily take for granted a glory that we have known of Him not realising that this is dependent upon His Presence with us. And that Presence is holiness without which no man can know the Lord.
